GloboNews reports that Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has officially recalled Ambassador Frederico Meyer from Israel and appointed Chargé d'Affaires Fabio Farias to take over his duties.

The Brazilian ambassador was initially recalled from Israel for consultations three months ago when Lula da Silva likened the Israel–Hamas war to the Holocaust, rendering Meyer persona non grata in Israel. Despite this, the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that this did not affect the diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Five days ago, the Brazilian ambassador returned to Tel Aviv, but according to Brazilian media, he will now be transferred to Geneva.

According to the Keshet news channel, officials in Jerusalem learned about the Brazilian president's decision through the media. The Israeli Foreign Ministry says it has received no official message on the matter.
