Lawsuit filed with High Court against 'private' import of foreign construction workers
The organization Kav Laoved and United for Human Rights have filed a lawsuit in the High Court of Justice, demanding the reversal of the government's decision to allow private recruitment agencies to hire foreign workers for employment in Israel.
Around 10 years ago, the hiring of foreign workers through private recruitment agencies was prohibited under pressure from the United States and international bodies, which listed Israel among countries with a low level of combating human trafficking.
Since then, recruitment has only been permitted through bilateral agreements between states.
However, with the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war and the prohibition on Palestinian Authority construction workers entering Israel, the Israeli construction industry faced a severe labor shortage, leading the government to reinstate the previous practice.
It's worth noting that US authorities have indicated their intention to return Israel to the blacklist once again.
