Azerbaijan to acquire Israeli-made aerostat for advanced missile and aircraft detection
Azerbaijani website Aze.Media reports Azerbaijan has purchased the Israeli-made Sky Dew high-altitude aerostat, which can detect missiles and aircraft.
Details of the deal and its current stage are not disclosed. However, Washington's consent for the deal will be required as the system was developed jointly by Israel and the United States.
The Sky Dew high-altitude missile defense aerostat, the world's largest, was developed by the Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) and the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA).
The system is designed to enhance Israel's airspace surveillance capabilities, detect cruise missiles, drones, and other advanced aerial threats at low altitudes, and provide early warning. The aerostat is equipped with an AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar capable of long-range detection.
Israel is one of Azerbaijan's major arms suppliers, although not the only one. This week, it became known that Baku is purchasing fighter jets from Pakistan.
