Knesset approves budget for Office of Jewish National Identity
As part of the implementation of coalition agreements, Knesset members have approved the budget of the Office of Jewish National Identity, overseen by Deputy Minister Avi Maoz (Noam Party) in the Ministry of the Prime Minister.
The department's total budget for 2024 is set at 20.5 million shekels. Of this amount, 6 million shekels are allocated for advertising and outreach, while 8 million shekels are designated for promoting national unity, mutual public guarantee ("arvut adadit"), and bolstering volunteerism for societal and national benefit.
Additionally, 2 million shekels will be allocated to strengthening ties with Jerusalem and advancing the values of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people.
Operational costs for the public appeal center will amount to 1.5 million shekels, with 1 million shekels designated for the Menachem Begin Heritage Center. The remaining funds will cover various administrative expenses.
It's worth noting that on October 25, 2023, Maoz proposed redirecting the department's budget towards military needs and aiding evacuees.
