Armenia considers buying Indo-Israeli Barak-8 air defense systems
Indian website IDRW reports that Armenia is considering purchasing Indo-Israeli Barak-8 air defense systems in addition to the Akash 1S systems already acquired from India.
The Barak-8 system, developed jointly by India's Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), is currently used by the IDF Navy and the armies of Azerbaijan and India. Morocco has also bought a batch of these systems.
Armenia has traditionally bought most of its weapons from Russia. However, following the recent Karabakh conflict, which resulted in Azerbaijan gaining full control of the region, Yerevan is seeking to diversify its military suppliers and reduce its reliance on Russia.
