A southern Israeli resident was arrested for questioning on suspicion of involvement in organized crime activities and the illegal possession of a Kalashnikov assault rifle.
The police are investigating whether the weapon was used by Hamas terrorists who entered Israel on October 7, and if they were stolen from the zone of the terrorist attack during the initial days of the war.
During a lengthy crime suppression operation, a 20-year-old resident of Beersheba, who was in possession of a machine gun, was detained for questioning. The police will take the suspect to the magistrate's court to extend his detention.
