On Tuesday, January 9, a meeting was held in the Knesset for the lobby aiming to reform the UN Relief Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), with more than 10 deputies from various parties and over 20 representatives from various countries' embassies in attendance. The discussion focused on the organization's future post-hostilities in Gaza, with evidence presented suggesting Hamas's complete control over UNRWA.
Lobby chair MP Sharren Haskel (Tikvah Hadasha) stated, "Just as IDF soldiers courageously fight Hamas on the front lines, we, the elected representatives of the people, must confront Hamas in the civilian sphere.
UNRWA played a key role in building the civilian infrastructure that allowed the terrible events of October 7 to occur. Therefore, closing UNRWA must be the first step in dismantling the civilian infrastructure supporting Hamas."
