The National Public Diplomacy Headquarters at the Israeli Prime Minister's Office has released updated statistics on Israeli casualties from the Hamas terrorist attack in southern Israel on October 7 and the War of the Iron Swords as of noon on January 9, 2024.

The October 7, 2023 massacre resulted in more than 1,200 deaths, with the data still undergoing finalization.

Forensic experts, dentists, and archaeologists continue working to identify remains three months later.

Of the casualties, 790 were civilians, including 725 Israeli civilians (449 men, 276 women) and 65 foreign workers (59 men, 6 women).

Among the Israelis, 364 were participants in the Nova music festival, while the rest were primarily residents of kibbutzim and villages in the south of the country.

The victims included 38 minors, 25 individuals aged 80 or older, with the oldest victim being 94 years old.

The terrorists targeted not only Jews but also Arabs, with 18 Negev Bedouins among the victims, including those killed during the massacre and others by subsequent rocket attacks.

The casualties also included 5 fire department officers, 4 MADA ambulance officers, 60 Israeli police officers, and 10 Shin Bet general security officers.

In the October 7 massacre, 314 IDF troops were killed, and since then, another 185 military personnel have died in the ongoing War of the Iron Swords.

As of January 9, 2024, 12,957 wounded individuals were transported to Israeli hospitals, with 12,326 physically injured.

Of these, 136 people died in hospitals, 41 were critically injured, 538 were seriously injured, 1,076 were moderately injured, and 10,354 were slightly injured. The severity of injuries for another 181 people was not indicated.

Among the wounded, 1,345 were participants in the Nova festival, 4,859 were residents of Israeli settlements caught in the Hamas invasion zone, 239 were police officers, and 2,438 were IDF soldiers. The wounded also included 3,900 minors, with varying age distributions.

Hamas kidnapped 253 people on October 7, and as of January 9, 136 hostages remain in their custody. Among the hostages, 25 are dead, with 24 killed by Hamas and one during a liberation attempt.

Of the 121 abductees returned to Israel, 5 were released before the deal, 81 Israelis and 24 foreigners were released as part of the deal with Hamas between November 24 and November 30, 2023.

Eight hostages were killed by Hamas, and their bodies were returned to Israel by the IDF. Additionally, three hostages were shot dead by IDF soldiers by mistake.

As of the latest update, one Israeli citizen remains missing.

From October 7 to January 6, more than 14 thousand rockets were fired into Israel. Notably, on October 8, a rocket hit Barzilai Hospital, and on October 11, a rocket struck the child development center at Barzilai Hospital.

During this period, 214,686 Israelis were evacuated from their homes, with 96,343 in the Northern District and 117,554 in the Southern District.
