14 suspects detained for selling entry permits to Israel for Palestinian laborers
Police say they have arrested 14 people on suspicion of illegally selling work permits to Palestinians that allowed them entry into Israel. The price of each such permit was several thousand shekels.
The investigation was conducted by the police in collaboration with the tax authorities and the IDF.
It is reported that among the suspects are several IDF and police officers.
The main suspect is a 53-year-old resident of Sakhnin. According to the police, he transmitted permits through his son, who served in the IDF and was stationed at the Sha'ar Efraim checkpoint.
The investigation also revealed that the main suspect operated a network of Palestinian and Israeli intermediaries who found residents of the Palestinian Authority interested in entry permits to Israel and collected payment.
