Borrell advocates for two-state solution regardless of Israel's participation

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has suggested convening an international conference on the Palestinian-Israeli settlement, even in the event of Israel's refusal to participate.

"We must cease discussing the Middle East peace process as a whole. It is imperative to focus on implementing the two-state principle and establishing a roadmap for both Israel and the Palestinians," quotes The Jerusalem Post.

The politician emphasized that peace is a broad concept. "While everyone supports the idea of achieving peace, we must focus on delineating a clear process towards it. If Israel chooses not to participate in finding a solution, it should not hinder other parties from engaging in discussions on the matter," he stated.

Borrell did not clarify whether he anticipates a scenario in which the international community would impose its will on Israel.

He pointed out that over the past 30 years, the Israeli leadership has rejected various settlement plans, including those proposed by Arab and American initiatives.

The European Union, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan are proposed as the organizers of the forthcoming conference, with the involvement of the League of Arab States, the United Nations, and the United States.

The statement was issued during a meeting of EU foreign ministers, where Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz and some of his Arab counterparts were in attendance.

The ministers voiced support for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and advocated for an escalation in humanitarian aid supplies.
