Kan 11: Metula might have been shelled with white phosphorus
In the evening news, Kan 11 correspondent in northern Israel, Rubi Hammerschlag, reported that Metula was possibly attacked with white phosphorus shells a few days ago.
The intense mortar shelling targeted Metula at the end of last week. Two mortars exploded in one of the city's streets. When security forces arrived at the site after dark, they found that the shells had caused a significant fire and the material they contained corroded part of the road surface. The Metula City Council believes the mortars contained white phosphorus intended to increase the damage.
Rubi Hammerschlag noted that the mortars were examined by military sappers and in a laboratory. The channel did not report the results of these checks. Still, the report mentioned that permission to publish this information was obtained from military censorship only today, January 24.
