Egyptian authorities are considering suspending the Camp David Peace Treaty if the Israeli army launches an operation in Rafah, as reported by the AP agency citing two Egyptian officials and one Western diplomat.

Rafah has turned into a massive refugee camp, hosting about 1.4 million people. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that victory over Hamas would be impossible without an operation in Rafah, promising to establish a humanitarian corridor for civilians to the north of the sector.

In Egypt, there are concerns that Palestinian refugees may flood into the Sinai Peninsula, potentially breaching the Egyptian border, which has been significantly fortified in recent months. Cairo officially rejects Israeli claims that existing Hamas tunnels connect the Gaza Strip and Sinai.
