Israeli media reports suggest that Ofir Akunis, currently serving as Minister of Science and Technology, may soon vacate his position to assume the role of Israeli consul in New York.
According to Keshet News, this move is aimed at streamlining the government structure by reallocating Akunis's portfolio to one of the existing ministers.
Haaretz also indicates that Akunis' reassignment to New York is part of a series of 11 political appointments within the foreign service, to which Prime Minister Netanyahu is entitled.
Additionally, the publication mentions that Benjamin Netanyahu's inner circle has considered several Likud candidates for the vacancy in New York, including Intelligence Minister Gila Gamliel and Knesset Member Boaz Bismuth.
Should Akunis' appointment proceed as planned, Haaretz suggests that Netanyahu will have fulfilled his quota for political appointments.
