The prison service has reported the death of Khaled Gamal Musa Shawish, aged 53, who was serving 10 life sentences at Nafha prison in southern Israel.
The day before his death, Shawish was taken to the Shamir Assaf HaRofeh hospital.
Prison Service representatives stated that, in accordance with regulations, an investigation into the cause of his death would be conducted.
Khaled Gamal Musa Shawish led the Tanzim terrorist group in Ramallah and was responsible for orchestrating numerous terrorist attacks resulting in the deaths of Israeli citizens.
He personally participated in the terrorist attack that claimed the lives of Benjamin and Talia Kahane near the village of Ofra.
Additionally, Shawish played a role in organizing the suicide bombing on King George Street in Jerusalem, which resulted in the deaths of Staff Sergeant Gad Shemesh, 34, and his wife Tzipi Shemesh, as well as 48-year-old Yitzhak Cohen from Modiin.
Shawish was also accountable for the Giva Tsarfati bombing, which resulted in the death of Meir Weishoz, and for sending a suicide bomber to the Maccabim checkpoint, where two police officers were wounded.
