Ynet: military prosecutor urges soldiers to adhere to international law
According to Ynet, Major General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, the chief military prosecutor, issued a special message addressing instances of law violations by IDF soldiers during combat in the Gaza Strip.
This message followed a directive from Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, the Chief of the General Staff, who stressed the importance of maintaining humanity among troops.
Halevi emphasized that soldiers were not deployed to the sector to kill, seek revenge, or commit genocide.
Yoav Zeitoun's report highlighted several instances during military operations where Israeli soldiers grossly violated IDF values, prompting investigations by the military police.
Tomer-Yerushalmi's message underscores the imperative to uphold the law.
The document emphasizes that unlike the enemy, the IDF strictly adheres to international law, permitting the use of force solely to achieve military objectives, despite the significant civilian presence in the combat zone.
It's worth noting that as part of an investigation by the International Court of Justice in The Hague regarding the legality of Israeli control over Judea and Samaria, UN experts alleged that the IDF committed war crimes in Gaza, including instances of rape. The US has urged Israel to investigate these allegations.
