IDF detected and destroyed tunnels connecting northern and central Gaza

The IDF reports the discovery of a major tunnel network that connected the northern and central parts of the Gaza Strip, stretching approximately 10 kilometers. The tunnels passed under a hospital and a university, where they had entry points.

Troops of the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit, Nahal Infantry Brigade, and other forces under the 162nd Division gained operational control over the network and raided the underground passages. After this, major sections of the tunnel network were demolished.

These tunnels connected the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital and a nearby university with the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City.

According to the IDF, the tunnel allowed Hamas Gaza City and Central Camps brigades to move operatives between the areas.

The tunnels had living quarters, bathrooms, and weapons depots.
