On Monday, February 26th, an indictment was filed in the Haifa District Court against 27-year-old Rami Mahamid from Umm al-Fahm.
He stands accused of contacting a foreign agent and providing services to a terrorist organization.
According to the indictment, since 2021, Rami Mahamid has expressed support for killings "in the name of Allah."
In 2022, he met Murad Abahara, a Jerusalem resident who claimed affiliation with the terrorist organization Islamic Jihad, on the Temple Mount.
Subsequently, Mahamid met with Abahara multiple times in Jerusalem and Jaffa, where they discussed potential terrorist attacks in Israel and the recruitment of other individuals.
Additionally, Mahamid provided Abahara with 6,500 shekels for militants in the West Bank.
The indictment further alleges that in May 2023, an unidentified individual contacted Mahamid via Facebook, claiming to be from Gaza and requesting communication through the Telegram application for a confidential matter.
This individual identified himself as a representative of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, and attempted to recruit Mahamid for an armed attack on a high-ranking official.
However, Mahamid declined, citing his work and obligations, and was then asked to find other candidates for carrying out attacks. Later, Mahamid received instructions for making explosive devices, but he was unable to fulfill the task.
After October 7, 2023, the same Hamas operative contacted Mahamid again, requesting information about police checkpoints.
Mahamid responded by stating that most areas were calm with no checkpoints due to restricted movement. He expressed sentiments of support for future attacks against Zionists.
In December 2023, Mahamid was summoned for questioning by the General Security Service (Shin Bet). Following this, he attempted to dispose of the chemicals he had obtained for making explosive devices.
