During a press conference in Tel Aviv, Defense Minister Yoav Galant discussed the conscription law, emphasizing that yeshiva students should share the burden of military service. "Without physical existence, there is no spiritual existence," he said.

Galant began the press conference, held at the IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv, by offering condolences to the families of the deceased and expressing gratitude to the servicemembers participating in combat for their contribution to the country's security. He wished the wounded a speedy recovery and thanked the medics for their work.

The Defense Minister reminded that Israel is entering a war for survival unlike any seen in the past 75 years. He noted that attaining the goals of the war and handling threats from Gaza, Lebanon, Judea, and Samaria requires "unity and partnership in decisions about the future of the country."

Galant stated that he believes in victory, but there is a real need to extend the service time of the standing army soldiers and reservists. "There is no choice; we must defend our home," the minister added.

He emphasized that this war has shown the necessity for all parts of society to share the burden of military service.

"As the defense minister of the State of Israel, who commands the troops to the battlefield, I turn to my colleagues in the coalition and government, to all members of the Knesset, and the entire public, and say: The State of Israel is the state of the Jewish people. The Torah protected the people of Israel throughout 2,000 years of exile. We cherish and appreciate those who dedicate their lives to learning the Torah. However, without physical existence, there is no spiritual existence. Our security challenges demonstrate that everyone must bear the burden of service. All parts of society," he declared.

Galant mentioned that he has recently met with the Prime Minister, the leader of the National Unity, key figures in the coalition, and leaders of ultra-Orthodox parties, discussing the necessity of reaching an agreement regarding the conscription law.

He stated that he would only support a law agreed upon by all members of the emergency government.

Channel 11 reported dissatisfaction and outrage in the ultra-Orthodox community in response to Galant's statement.
