Israeli filmmaker Doron Eran will direct and produce "Darkness at the End of the Tunnel," a film about the fate of three Israeli hostages who were killed by mistake during an IDF operation in Shuja'iyya in the Gaza Strip. Hollywood producer Tomer Almagor will co-produce the movie.

Israelis Yotam Haim, 28, Alon Shamriz, 26, and Samer Talalka, 24, were kidnapped during the October 7 attacks. Haim and Shamriz were kidnapped from the Kfar Aza kibbutz, and Talalka was kidnapped from the Nir Am kibbutz. Haim was a drummer for a heavy metal band, Shamriz was a computer engineering student at Sapir College, and Talalka had been working in the kibbutz hatchery but was from the Bedouin town of Hura. They managed to escape captivity in Gaza, but on December 16, 2023, were killed by IDF soldiers.

"Darkness at the End of the Tunnel" will tell the story of Yotam, Samer, and Alon, who didn't know each other before the attack but found themselves each other's only hope during long days in the dark tunnels of Hamas. For over two months, they endured hunger, torture, and explosions, being moved from tunnel to tunnel. They cared for and helped each other until they saw a chance to escape.

Yotam Haim's mother, Iris, and Alon Shamriz's father, Avi, assist in the film's production and contribute to the screenplay. The filmmakers also met with the families of the hostages and the freed Israelis who may have encountered the deceased in captivity.

According to Doron Eran, he decided to make the film "Darkness at the End of the Tunnel" when he saw the events of October 7 were denied around the world. Despite the heavy psychological burden associated with working on the film, Eran considers it his duty to tell the world about what happened and support Israel in the information war on the international stage.
