The television channel Al Jazeera, citing informed sources, reports that the current round of negotiations in Cairo between Israel and Hamas on a ceasefire and exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners has ended without reaching an agreement.

Hamas politburo member Sami Abu Zuhri blamed Israel and the United States for the failure of the negotiations. He declared he is ready to support a Security Council resolution calling for even a temporary ceasefire.

At the same time, he stated that Hamas continues to insist on a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the return of displaced Palestinians to their homes.

The failure of negotiations has been repeatedly reported in the media. Representatives of Hamas have also made such statements. The terrorist group consistently blamed Israel for the failure.

The US administration, which is highly interested in reaching an agreement before the presidential elections, can exert pressure on Egypt and Qatar, which in turn can pressure Hamas.
