The IDF command has announced new appointments in army leadership. The decision was made by Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi and approved by Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
One of the newly appointed individuals is Brigadier General Roman Goffman, who will lead the Directorate for the Development of New Methods of Warfare in the General Planning Directorate of the IDF General Staff.
Goffman, originally from Mazyr, Belarus, is the first representative of the "big aliyah" to attain the rank of brigadier general. He previously commanded the Seventh Tank Brigade and the Bashan Division stationed in the Golan Heights.
On October 7, 2023, while serving as commander of the Army Combat Training Center, he participated in repelling a Hamas attack on Israel in Sderot and was seriously wounded in the battle.
