Mossad spy agency chief David Barnea and Major General Nitzan Alon will meet with the war cabinet on Tuesday evening, after having returned to Israel from the Qatar negotiations on a hostage deal with Hamas.
Earlier reports indicated that the current proposal under discussion could lead to a six-week ceasefire in Gaza and the release of 40 female, elderly, and wounded hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
While there are still disagreements between the parties, Israeli officials stated that Hamas's response has come closer to the initial framework, allowing negotiations to proceed and working out the details of the deal.
The main point of contention between Israel and Hamas currently revolves around Hamas insisting on the right to choose who will be included in the release list. Israeli officials stated that Israel rejected this demand.
