'In the right place, at the right time': Vacationing doctor rescues child's life in Eilat
Family and children's doctor Adi Cohen from Rishon Lezion, who was vacationing in Eilat last Friday, rescued a girl evacuated from Kibbutz Be'eri after the October 7 massacre.
The incident occurred entirely by chance: Cohen was in Eilat for a medical forum, which also included a family vacation, as reported by the online publication Gal Gefen.
While at the beach near Dolphin Reef with his family, Cohen received a call from his son, who had spotted a four-year-old girl struggling to breathe.
Cohen rushed to the scene and found the girl wheezing, with pale, grayish skin. He realized that the child had choked on an object or a piece of food.
Using a special massage technique, the doctor managed to restore the child’s breathing, but he couldn't dislodge the foreign object. Fortunately, the wheezing ceased, and the girl began breathing again. Shortly after, an ambulance arrived, and paramedics transported the girl to the hospital in stable condition.
After the child was taken to the hospital, her uncle revealed to the doctor that their family had endured the events of the Hamas massacre on October 7 in Kibbutz Be’eri.
Reflecting on the experience, Adi Cohen remarked, "It was very touching, and at the same time, scary to realize the extent of pain one family can endure."
