63-year-old Palestinian man, who converted to Judaism, mistakenly killed by reservist
A reservist fatally shot a Palestinian man at a bus station at the Elazar junction in the West Bank this morning. The IDF says the Military Police has launched an investigation into the incident.
Sameh Muhammad Abd al-Rai Zaytoun, 63, "aroused suspicion" and later turned out to be innocent. It was determined that the victim had no ties to terrorist activities and that his killing was a case of misidentification.
"Immediately upon receiving the report about the serious incident, the Military Advocate General ordered the opening of an investigation by the Military Police," the IDF says.
The area faces constant security threats, with multiple attempted attacks occurring daily.
According to Kippah, Sameh Muhammad Abd al-Rai Zaytoun was a well-known figure in the area who had converted to Judaism four years ago, taking the Hebrew name David. He was the grandson of a Palestinian who saved 25 Jews during the 1929 Arab riots. A small knife, which he carried for self-defense but had never used, was later found in his bag.
