On March 24, Benny Gantz, head of the National Unity party and a member of the narrow war cabinet, issued a statement asserting his intention to leave the government if the coalition's conscription law is passed.
"I, along with my colleagues, cannot remain in the emergency government if such a law is approved by the Knesset and included in the collection of laws in a manner that undermines the unity and security of the state, especially during times of war," stated Benny Gantz.
Gantz criticized the priorities and values of the proposed law, warning that it would exacerbate societal divisions "at a time when unity is essential in facing common enemies." He affirmed his efforts to prevent the law's passage.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant echoed Gantz's sentiment, stating his refusal to support the conscription bill to be discussed by the government on March 26. "My stance remains unchanged—I will not advocate for any bill that lacks approval from all coalition factions," Gallant affirmed. He disassociated himself from the bill under development and affirmed his non-support.
