IDF confirms death of top Hamas commander Marwan Issa in airstrike earlier this month
IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari in a press conference officially confirmed the death of Marwan Issa, the deputy to Mohammed Deif. Issa was considered the third-ranking figure in the Hamas hierarchy.
Alongside Issa, the IDF strike in Nuseirat on March 10 also killed senior Hamas commander Ghazi Abu Tama'a.
Issa has been effectively leading Hamas's operations in recent years due to Deif's health condition. He is also the main link between Hamas's military and political wings.
Issa is the most influential leader of Hamas, who has been killed since the beginning of the war in Gaza on October 7, 2023. It's believed he played a more significant role in the organization than Saleh al-Arouri, the deputy chairman of Hamas's political bureau and Hamas's military commander of the West Bank. He was eliminated in Beirut on January 2, 2024.
