On Thursday, March 28, the High Court of Justice issued an interim order barring the government from funding after April 1 the monthly stipends of at least some ultra-Orthodox yeshivas whose students are subject to the conscription law and have not presented themselves for conscription.

However, funding for the education of students who got a military service deferral will continue.

The decision will come into effect on April 1 and remain in force until the court issues a final ruling.

A panel of nine judges will consider the matter at a May session of the High Court of Justice.

The leader of the Shas political party, Aryeh Deri, is outraged at the High Court of Justice's decision and says his Haredi religious political party is considering its next steps.
