300 families who lost loved ones to war or terrorism have sent a letter to the defense minister, urging him to avoid "political speeches" at cemeteries on Remembrance Day.
The letter, reported by Kan Bet radio, was addressed to Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
Families are requesting priority for those who lost loved ones on October 7 and during the war in mourning events.
"Mr. Minister, tensions within Israeli society have peaked this year due to October 7 and struggles over Israeli democracy's character. We fear this will impact the ceremony honoring the fallen," the letter reads. The authors also reminded the minister of conflicts during last year's commemorations, especially where ministers and parliamentarians who didn't serve in the army or criticized government institutions spoke.
