Israel Hayom has published a position paper on the future of the Gaza Strip, recently authored by Brigadier General Roman Gofman.
In an internal document circulated to political and military leaders, Gofman asserts the necessity of maintaining Israeli civilian control over the Gaza Strip for the foreseeable future.
This stance sharply contrasts with official statements from the Israeli government and the recommendations of the IDF command and security services.
The IDF press office clarified that this document is an internal and confidential one, representing solely the views of its author and not the official stance of the IDF.
Gofman, who is in the process of transitioning into the role of military secretary of the head of government, released a statement following the publication in Israel Hayom, stating that the document reflects his personal opinion.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich responded to the publication by stating that it does not contradict the government's position. He noted that he had previously expressed the same view that without control of Gaza, security would be compromised. Smotrich also highlighted the need for diverse perspectives within the army leadership and called for the establishment of a new general staff.
