German Ambassador Steffen Seibert faced a violent attack during his visit to Birzeit University in Ramallah by Palestinian students.
According to Srugim, students hurled stones at the diplomat's car and attempted to open its doors, nearly subjecting him to a lynching. Srugim also shared a video capturing the incident.
The attackers reportedly damaged the car's roof, insulted the ambassador, kicked the vehicle, and pelted it with stones. Ambassador Seibert had to block the doors as demonstrators persisted in their attempts to open them before eventually leaving.
The attack was purportedly in protest against Germany's support for Israel. The video, filmed from the students' perspective, circulated on social media. Commentators on the video sought to differentiate between Palestinians in the West Bank, including Birzeit University students, and Hamas militants and Gaza residents.
Germany recently announced the resumption of funding for the UNRWA Agency for Palestine Refugees, and its leadership consistently advocates for an end to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
