Trump says he will support Israel in its confrontation with Iran
Former US President and presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump gave an interview to Time magazine, in which, among other things, he talks about his attitude towards Israel, the Israeli leadership, and the war that Israel is waging.
In this interview, Trump says he would join Israel's side in a confrontation with Iran. "If they attack Israel, yes, we would be there".
Trump admits that he has come to share the widespread belief in Israel that the peaceful existence of a Palestinian state existing side by side in peace is increasingly unlikely. "There was a time when I thought two-state could work. Now I think two-state is going to be very, very tough," he said.
However, the former president criticized Israel's handling of its war against Hamas and called for the nation to "get it over with."
When asked whether the United States should suspend military aid to Israel to push Israelis to end the war, Trump does not answer "yes," but he does not rule it out either.
Donald Trump sharply criticizes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was once his close ally. "I had a bad experience with Bibi," Trump says. According to him, the US operation to assassinate a top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in January 2020 was supposed to be a joint attack until Netanyahu backed out at the last moment. "That was something I never forgot," he says.
He blames Netanyahu for failing to prevent the terrorist attack on October 7. "It happened on his watch," Trump notes.
