The Iraqi Ministry of Justice announced that on May 6, a death sentence was carried out against 11 individuals convicted of terrorist activities, all affiliated with the Islamic State group.
The convicted individuals were executed by hanging at a prison in the Dhi Qar province. The report highlights that the court verdict received approval from the President of Iraq. This follows a previous execution a month earlier, where 13 individuals were put to death, including 11 jihadists and two criminals.
Human rights activists raise concerns regarding the adherence to procedural rules during case deliberations. According to their findings, confessions obtained under torture often serve as the basis for sentencing.
