Mount Herzl State Memorial: President pledges to bring hostages home
A state memorial ceremony for Remembrance Day is underway at the Mount Herzl Cemetery in Jerusalem.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, IDF Chief of Staff Herzi HaLevi, Inspector General of Police Yaakov Shabtai, security service leaders, ministers, Knesset members, as well as family members of fallen military personnel, civilians, and loved ones of hostages are participating.
President Isaac Herzog, speaking at the ceremony, underscored that the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, was an assault on Israel's right to exist and its sovereignty. He emphasized the significance of this solemn day, uniting all Israelis, including bereaved families, survivors, and representatives of diverse communities and faiths. Herzog mourned those killed on October 7 and in the subsequent war across Israel. He paid tribute to all who have died defending the sovereign State of Israel.
Addressing the relatives of the victims, Herzog empathized with the profound emptiness in their souls since losing their loved ones. He expressed his daily prayer for society to honor their sacrifice and provide support to overcome challenges, particularly for survivors of terrorist attacks who require assistance.
Herzog stressed the nation's obligation to ensure the return of all hostages, both civilians and military personnel. He emphasized the importance of their return for the entire nation and reiterated the continual presence of those abducted in the hearts of all Israelis.
