On May 16, the IDF announced the promotion of Roman Gofman to Major General.
Gofman, recently appointed as military secretary to the Prime Minister of Israel, was honored at a ceremony in Tel Aviv's Kiriya. Among the attendees were IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and other officials.
Gofman, originally from Mozyr, Belarus, is the first representative of the "big aliyah" to achieve the rank of brigadier general. He previously commanded the 7th Armored Brigade "Saar me-Golan" and the 210th Territorial Division "Bashan" in the Golan Heights.
On October 7, 2023, while serving as commander of the Army Combat Training Center, Gofman went to Sderot to assist in repelling a Hamas attack on Israel, during which he was seriously wounded.
