Northern Israel on fire: Dozens of fire crews battle blazes in Galilee and Golan
Fifteen fire brigades, supported by 10 Keren Kayemet Le-Israel Foundation inspector brigades and IDF soldiers, are battling a forest fire in the Biriya forest.
Strong winds are complicating efforts to contain the blaze. Firefighters have prevented the fire from spreading to nearby populated areas, but it remains uncontained.
Simultaneously, nine fire brigades, nine Department of Nature Reserves and Parks brigades, and Keren Kayemet Le-Israel personnel are tackling multiple fires in the Golan Heights. Major fires are currently burning near Katzrin and Kidmat Zvi.
The Department of Nature Reserves and Parks reported that forest fires have scorched more than 60,000 dunams since the beginning of the year.
In the first half of June alone, 45,000 dunams were consumed, with significant damage occurring in the Upper Galilee and Golan Heights. Nearly half of the burned areas are within nature reserves and national parks, with the remainder affecting open spaces and forests.
