IDF secures 60% to 70% of Rafah in military operation
The IDF has released interim results of their 40-day military operation in Rafah. Currently, they control 60% to 70% of the city and the strategic Philadelphia corridor.
During the operation, around 550 terrorists were killed, and about 200 tunnel shafts, including one of the longest and most complex, were discovered. At least 25 tunnels extend to the Egyptian border, with efforts ongoing to determine which ones cross over.
These gains came at a high cost: 22 military personnel were killed, including eight in an armored personnel carrier explosion in Tal as Sultan.
Israeli forces are operating both above-ground and underground in Rafah, known for its extensive and intricate tunnel networks used by Palestinian terrorists. These tunnels vary in depth and level, intersecting and equipped with hidden exits.
IDF commanders expect the Rafah operation to continue for several more weeks.
