On Monday, June 17, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with US Presidential Special Envoy Amos Hochstein in Jerusalem.

The meeting included Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, Chief of Staff Tzachi Braverman, Military Secretary Major General Roman Gofman, Political Advisor Ophir Falk, and Deputy US Ambassador to Israel Stephanie Hallett.

The content of the discussions was not disclosed.

Media reports indicate Hochstein's main objective is to convey the White House's interest in a ceasefire on the Lebanese-Israeli border or at least to prevent escalation that could lead to a major war in the Middle East. While the US has influence over Israel and Lebanon, it lacks diplomatic leverage to pressure Hezbollah.
