Due to the lack of majority support, the coalition plans to postpone the "rabbi law" vote scheduled for June 18 in the Knesset Legislation Committee.
The proposed bill aims to give the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Chief Rabbinate priority in electing city rabbis, and to increase the number of rabbis in each locality. It has faced strong criticism from Likud lawmakers.
Likud deputies Tally Gotliv and Dan Iluz have spoken out against the bill. On June 18, their party colleague Amit Levi expressed similar sentiments, stating, "This is an unworthy law and should not be approved."
