Defense Minister Yoav Gallant met with US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan at the White House on Wednesday, June 26. During the meeting, Gallant addressed a video by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticizing Washington, emphasizing that differences between the US and Israel are usually resolved in private meetings.
Gallant discussed Lebanon, the Gaza Strip, Iran, and the supply of American weapons to Israel, stressing that these talks are conducted as friends. He noted that while the two countries share common goals, they sometimes disagree on how to achieve them.
Netanyahu's video, hinting at a deliberate delay in arms supplies to Israel, caused tension in Israeli-American relations. Before his trip, Gallant mentioned "isolated differences" that needed swift resolution to strengthen their common position.
Machane Mamlachti leader Benny Gantz supported Gallant, stating that many issues with the US have been resolved through private negotiations, including armament issues. He said, "Unnecessary friction provoked by the head of government for political reasons may gain popularity with voters but harms the strategic relationship with the US, which is vital for Israel's ability to win the war."
Netanyahu's associates responded, saying, "When differences are not resolved in private negotiations for many weeks, the head of government must speak openly to convey the necessary message to our military personnel. This is what happened this time."
