Mother of soldier killed in Rafah recounts speaking to him on the phone when he was shot
Meirav Shynes, the mother of Sgt. Eyal Shynes, 19, a soldier from the Nahal Infantry Brigade’s 931st Battalion, who was killed on June 27 in the Rafah area, shared in an interview with Army Radio that she was talking to her son on the phone when he was wounded and killed.
According to Meirav, during the conversation, she heard Eyal scream and call out to a fellow soldier. She realized her son was injured as he stopped responding, and she planned to look for him in hospitals. However, she did not receive any call from the army and later was informed of Eyal's death.
Shynes was buried Friday near his hometown kibbutz of Afik in the southern Golan Heights.
