The government has approved the construction of a new city, Tila, near Rahat and Lehavim in the Bnei Shimon Regional Council area.
The city will cover an area of 4 square kilometers and is planned to accommodate 80,000 residents. Initially, the city was intended to cater to a mixed population, but the final decision was made to build it to meet the needs of the ultra-Orthodox community.
The Ministry of Finance, environmental organizations, and the municipalities and regional councils of the Negev oppose the city's construction, which will cost NIS 6.4 billion and rely on government funding.
