Hamas urges leaders abroad to accept deal with Israel
According to reports from Kan and the Associated Press, Hamas leaders in Gaza have been urged by their foreign counterparts to accept the current ceasefire proposal. Letters obtained by journalists Itamar Margalit and Ram Brandes, based on AP sources, reveal discussions within Hamas about the severe toll of the ongoing conflict since October 2023, including high casualties and dire living conditions in Gaza.
Officials from the Middle East and the U.S. speculate that extensive destruction and heavy losses among militant groups may be prompting Hamas to reconsider its ceasefire terms.
Notably, these appeals to Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh appear to contradict the stance of Hamas Gaza leader Yahya Sinwar. There has been no public response from Haniyeh or other leaders abroad regarding these appeals.
Hamas spokesperson Jihad Tahav told AP that there are no internal divisions within the organization.
