A senior Hamas official told AFP Sunday that the head of Hamas's political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, who is currently in Doha, informed mediators and interested parties in the region during a series of phone calls about the group's decision to cease negotiations.
Hamas' statement mentions that this decision was made due to Israel's "non-serious attitude" towards the negotiations and the "massacres" in Gaza.
From July 10-12, an Israeli delegation held negotiations with mediators in Doha and Cairo. On July 13, a series of strikes in Shati and near Khan Younis resulted in the deaths of many Hamas militants and activists, as well as civilian casualties.
According to Hamas-run Gaza's Ministry of Health, around 100 people were killed and over 300 injured. The IDF and Shin Bet confirmed that the main target of the strike near Khan Younis was Hamas militant leader Muhammad Deif.
