Hezbollah warned Saleh al-Arouri about attack on him
The Beirut-based newspaper Al Akhbar, closely affiliated with Hezbollah, has published details of the investigation of the assassination of Saleh al-Arouri, the deputy chairman of Hamas's political bureau. He was killed in a strike in Beirut on January 2, 2024.
Israeli drones were in the sky over Beirut at the time of the attack, while Israeli fighter aircraft were flying over the Mediterranean Sea. At the moment, it is unclear who exactly launched the rockets. The rockets were small but packed with a powerful payload, breaking through three building floors.
The building targeted in the attack was known as Hamas headquarters. It had been under surveillance for a long time. It was vacated immediately after October 7. The meeting on January 2 was the first one since the war began, and al-Arouri had just returned from Turkey.
It is assumed that either an Israeli agent was in al-Arouri's inner circle or there was a technical leak. According to Al Akhbar, Hezbollah warned the Hamas deputy political bureau chief that he was under constant surveillance.
