Head of UNRWA summoned to US Congress over terror support
A group of Republican congressmen serving on the House Foreign Affairs Committee sent a letter to Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), expressing outrage at the agency's cooperation with Hamas.
“Our constituents are horrified that their taxpayer dollars may have, through UNRWA failures, supported Hamas terrorists. Therefore, we request that you appear before the House Foreign Affairs Committee to answer our questions and address the concerns of the American people." the letter stated.
As reported by the New York Post, the US administration has transferred over $730 million to the agency since January 2021. In October 2022, President Joe Biden announced an additional $100 million.
The publication quotes one of the authors of the letter, California congressman Darrell Issa: "Gone are the days when the agency used humanitarian aid to support terror. Now everyone knows that UN agencies are filled with missiles, and schools teach hatred of Israel," he said.
