Negotiations between Egyptian President Abd Fattah el-Sisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who arrived in Cairo for his first visit since 2012, focused on the situation in the Gaza Strip.
"We continue to cooperate with our Egyptian brothers to halt the bloodshed in Gaza. Both our nations are committed to peace and stability in the region," stated the Turkish leader, emphasizing efforts to rebuild the sector post-conflict.
The talks also addressed plans to expand economic cooperation, with Erdogan aiming to boost trade volume to $15 billion.
Additionally, discussions included cooperation in the defense sector.
Relations between the two countries soured after the ousting of President Mohamed Morsi, yet trade and economic ties endured.
In 2021, Cairo and Ankara began to mend relations, with el-Sisi and Erdogan meeting multiple times at international forums.
