IAEA chief: Iran continues to enrich uranium
International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi has stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran continues to enrich uranium well beyond the needs for commercial nuclear use. He made the statement after briefing EU foreign ministers on the subject.
The international official noted that since the beginning of 2024, the pace of uranium enrichment has slightly decreased. However, Iran was still enriching at an elevated rate of around 7 kg of uranium per month to 60% purity.
Earlier, the IAEA reported that from June to November 2023, Iran was enriching about three kilograms of uranium to 60% per month. However, by the end of the year, this figure had increased to nine kilograms.
