Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh has conveyed a message to PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, urging him to resign from the government.

Until a new cabinet is formed, the current government will continue its duties.

"This decision reflects the political, economic, and security developments linked to Israeli aggression against Gaza and the escalating situation in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem," stated Shtayyeh.

He further added, "Our people, the Palestinian cause, and our political system are facing unprecedented challenges, including aggression, genocide, ethnic cleansing, famine, intensified colonialism, terrorism, and attempts to dismantle the UN Relief Agency for Palestine Refugees."

It is expected that a government of technocrats will be established this week, with Muhammad Mustafa, head of the Palestine Investment Fund, being considered as a potential prime minister candidate suitable for Abbas.

Media reports suggest that Hamas has agreed to the formation of a technocratic government, primarily tasked with Gaza Strip reconstruction and security concerns.

The new government will not be affiliated with any of the parties operating in Palestinian territories. Instead, it will comprise professionals committed to serving until presidential and parliamentary elections are held.
