Ahram Newspaper Editor-in-Chief blames Hamas for Gaza's crisis
The Middle East Media Research Center (MEMRI) has highlighted a statement from Ashraf Abu al-Houl, the editor-in-chief of Egypt's official newspaper Al-Ahram.
During a television interview, he asserted that the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, brought disaster to the Gaza Strip.
"Even if 10,000 Israelis die, look at the destruction in Gaza. Before October 7, there were no Israelis in Gaza. Now they are there. And Gaza itself lies in ruins. Even if the war ends now, it's a disaster. When people return, there will be no houses, no water, no food," he remarked.
Al-Houl emphasized that declaring Hamas's survival as a victory is unfounded.
"The question arises: who is the resistance protecting? The Palestinians or themselves? If you are unable to protect the citizens, that is a failure," he added, noting that Hamas prioritizes safeguarding tunnels and its commanders over schools and mosques.
