The head of the Hamas Politburo, Ismail Haniyeh, issued a statement coinciding with the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

He accused Israel of derailing peace talks and demanded the exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners.

Simultaneously, the leader of the terrorist group expressed Hamas's willingness to continue negotiations, provided they result in a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the region, and the repatriation of those displaced by "Israeli aggression."

Haniyeh referred to October 7, 2023, as a historical day with strategic significance: "We have brought the Palestinian issue back to the forefront of international politics, despite the efforts of colonial powers to suppress us."
